St. Joseph's Catholic Primary School
'We work, we care, we pray, we share.'
Welcome to St Joseph's. Our school is a small Catholic School in the village of Withnell on the outskirts of Chorley. We are a proud Catholic school with many strengths. We welcome children and families of all faiths and those with none - we recognise that we have so much more in common with each other than those things that make us different. We will therefore extend the warmest of welcomes to any family who chooses to send their child to our school.
We know that choosing a school for your child is one of the most difficult decisions a parent can make. We recognise that as parents you, most of all, want to know that we will know your child, that your child will be looked after, loved and pushed to reach their full potential.
At St Joseph's we adopt a traditional approach to our curriculum. We believe that with great teaching and hard work, all children can and will succeed. We listen to children read frequently and expect parents to do the same. We teach phonics rigorously and encourage children to choose from the array of books in our brand new library. We teach maths with a healthy balance of rigour and fun. Children love to succeed and our ‘everyone will get there’ approach gives them the tools to do so.
We want our children to take risks, have a go at something that they didn't think they were capable of. We want our children to recognise that when they work hard, great things happen. Our children perform exceptionally well in National tests. We have been ranked in the top 1% of school nationally for progress for every year since 2014. This however is only the outcome of years and years of hard work. SAT’s result, as fantastic as they may be, are not our focus. Our children take as much pleasure in producing their outstanding pieces of art work, representing school in various sporting competitions or taking a lead role in one of our productions.
I want you to know that if you choose St Joseph's, we will know your child; we will know you as a family and we will guarantee that your child receives a first class education.

Space day in Class One!
Please put the date in your diary for our Space Day in Class 1. Thursday 13th July.
The children can come in 'Space themed clothes' on this day and must remember to bring in their Space project too.
Well done to the children who represented us in the bowling tournament.
You played brilliantly and were a credit to us!
